Our Faculty
Administratively, our school is separated into three sections: the Early Childhood Development (Three year progam through second grade), the Lower School (grades three through five), and the Middle School (grades six through eight). The administrative staff consists of the Head of School, Rabbi Lee Buckman and the Principal, Leah Summers, supported by a team of Directors (Judaic Studies, Early Childhood, Lower School, Middle School, M'silot, Student Services and Technology).
There are 51 full-time faculty members and 17 part-time teachers. All full-time teachers have either a Bachelors or specialist degree in their respective field of instruction. Additionally, more than half of our teachers have Masters degrees.
Ours is a very experienced faculty, of varying ages and backgrounds with one commonality-- a love of teaching your children. There's a culture of sharing and mentoring between teachers who have been here a long time and those younger teachers who bring new ideas and extra energy to our school. The typical GHA teacher has been teaching for an average of 18 years, with 9 of those years having been spent here.
We are truly a "GHA Family": A distinguishing feature of GHA and its faculty is its relationship with the Jewish community of metropolitan Atlanta. As the oldest Jewish day school in the city, GHA today has many students whose parents attended the school. Several GHA teachers are themselves alumni, and nealry 30 alumni currently have their children enrolled at GHA. In addition, we have several faculty members with children in the school. This history coalesces to form a "GHA Family" identity among students, parents and faculty. Members of the family are deeply devoted to our school.
